12 Layered Lob Haircut Ideas That Add Movement Without Losing Shape

A layered lob is my answer for hair that’s too thick to swing and too straight to have any bounce on its own. Layers do the work your hair isn’t doing naturally, and when they’re cut right, you barely notice them, you just notice that everything moves.

Here are twelve ways I layer a lob depending on texture, density, and how much drama someone actually wants.

Subtle Interior Layers

These live underneath the top layer of hair and add lift without changing the outline at all. This is the one I do most for thick hair that just needs to breathe.

Face-Framing Layers on a Lob

Shorter pieces around the face draw the eye up and give the whole cut a finished, intentional look, even on a wash-and-go day.

Heavy Layering for Thin Hair

Careful here, thin hair can look wispy if you over-layer it. I keep the layers longer and less frequent so the ends still read full.

Choppy Layers for Texture

Point cutting into the layers adds grit and texture, perfect for anyone who wants their lob to look effortlessly undone rather than polished.

Layering for Curly and Wavy Hair

Curls need layers cut dry, curl by curl, or you risk an uneven shape once it springs up. I always dry-cut this version before finishing wet.

Styling Layers for Maximum Movement

A round brush blow-dry or loose curling wand pass brings out every layer you paid for. Skip this step and layers just look like flat sections.
