12 Long Lob Haircut Ideas for When You’re Not Ready to Cut Too Much

Half of my clients who ask for a lob actually mean a long lob, they just don’t know the term yet. They want something, not nothing, but they are not emotionally ready to lose six inches. I get it completely, and honestly, the long lob is often the smarter first move anyway.

Here are twelve ways I cut and style a long lob so it still feels like a real change.

Collarbone-Length Long Lob

This is the longest version of a lob before it stops being a lob at all. It sits just at or slightly below the collarbone and keeps most of your length while still losing the dead ends.

Long Lob With Subtle Layers

A few interior layers keep this length from looking heavy without touching the overall silhouette much. This is my go-to for thick hair that’s never been layered before.

Blunt Long Lob

No layers, just a clean horizontal line at the longest point of the lob range. This version reads the most elegant and works especially well on straight, healthy hair.

Long Lob With Face-Framing Pieces

Even without full bangs, a couple of shorter face-framing pieces cut into a long lob soften the whole look and make it feel more finished.

Transitioning From Long Hair to a Long Lob

I always tell clients this is the safest first cut if you’re used to length. You’ll lose the dead, thin ends but keep enough length to still put your hair up comfortably.

Styling a Long Lob for Everyday Wear

A loose bend with a one-inch wand and a light-hold spray is all this length needs. It’s genuinely one of the fastest lengths to style well in the morning.
