12 Frizzy Curly Hair Tips for Bouncy, Defined Curls

Curly hair and frizz have a long history together, and honestly, most of what causes it comes down to a handful of fixable habits rather than your curl pattern being difficult. Once you nail the moisture balance and stop disturbing your curls while they dry, frizz stops being the main character of your hair story.

Here are twelve tips that consistently bring my curly clients back to defined, bouncy curls instead of a frizzy halo.

The LOC Method

Layer a liquid, an oil, then a cream on damp hair in that order to lock in moisture and seal your cuticle before frizz has a chance to set in.

Praying Hands Application

Smooth product between your palms and glide down each curl section in one motion instead of scrunching immediately, which disrupts the curl pattern.

Scrunch Out the Crunch

Once your gel cast fully dries, scrunch gently to break the cast and reveal soft, bouncy curls underneath without introducing new frizz.

Sleep in a Pineapple

Loosely gather your curls at the top of your head before bed to protect your pattern overnight instead of letting it get crushed and frizzy against your pillow.

Avoid Overwashing

Stretch your wash days out and use a co-wash in between to avoid stripping the natural oils that keep frizz at bay.

Diffuse, Don’t Rub

Cup your curls into the diffuser bowl and hold rather than moving it around your head, which agitates the hair and creates frizz.
